The ethos of what I do is the same today as it was when I started up my fine jewellery studio 18 years (!) ago. I LOVE to create jewellery that brings you joy. I hope that my jewellery gives you a lift, whether you’re wearing it yourself or giving it to a loved one.
For me, creating feel-good jewellery means having a happy team and a positive work life balance for everyone involved. A big factor for my team’s happiness is the ability to work whatever hours we need to, to make work fit in around our lives. When you work towards shared goals and you’re committed to the job in hand, honestly why should it matter what hours you work to make that happen? Some of us like an early start, others work school hours, we sometimes rely on evenings or weekends. There’s a lot of juggling, cooperating with partners, and a constantly shifting working landscape. There may be no more small babies in the studio at the moment but we all have commitments, whether we need to factor in unexpected sick days, inset days, school holidays or ageing parents, life keeps throwing curveballs and I its important to me that we all at least have the flexibility to slot work into our lives.
I believe that wherever possible, it makes a lot of sense to play to your strengths and get help with aspects of your business that are best suited to others. My team has recently evolved to include my husband Laszlo. Fortunately for me, as well as being a long standing collaborator on the design side, Laszlo is also lending me his photography talent and expertise. I’m hugely grateful for him being even more part of the team now. I’m ever grateful to my studio manager Maggie who keeps everything and everyone in check, to Charlie who helps with the marketing and strategy side of things, and to Lizzy who helps with everything from the workshop admin to photography processing and more. Having the team in place frees me up to focus on designing and talking to customers as much as possible. Thankfully this works brilliantly for all of us, helps the business and makes work more enjoyable!
