How to commission

We love working with our clients to produce bespoke pieces, which use the JHW signature aesthetic, but are original and wholly personal. Over the years, we’ve had the pleasure of producing many truly exquisite, one-of-a-kind pieces of fine jewellery in this way. Examples of some of these pieces an be viewed in our Bespoke Statement Rings and Tailored Commitment Rings galleries.

Our Design Options

Whether you’re marking a special occasion or simply treating yourself or a loved one, we can work with you to produce the perfect piece in several ways:

  1. Customising an existing design

Jo Hayes Ward designs rings, earrings, bracelets, necklaces, pendants and brooches (visit our shop here) within her various collections.
Each design can be made in your preferred shade of 18ct recycled or fairtrade gold. Stone set pieces can be made with a gem of your choice making the piece completely individual to you. We work with a variety of stones, if you have a particular gem in mind we can help source it for you.
Additionally we can offer an engraving service on our pieces - where there is space to do so.
Please get in touch if you’d like to discuss these options.

  1. Fully bespoke commissions
You may prefer to work with Jo to produce a completely unique, one-of-a-kind piece using her signature aesthetic. Read about one of our clients - Sarah, who re-purposed the diamonds from her wedding ring to create a brand new ring (link).

Clients have found this a particularly creative and personal process, allowing them to put their own ideas into a piece of jewellery alongside Jo, should they wish. So how does it work? Following initial discussions, Jo presents ideas and drawings, alongside a selection of stones (where required) for her client to review, following more discussion the drawings are fine tuned into the final design. Once the client is completely happy, we begin the production process.

  1. Repurposing heirloom pieces

You may have pieces of jewellery which have been gifted, inherited, you no longer wear or which were never really right in the first place. Such pieces can be given a new lease of life, by resetting stones or potentially repurposing their metal into a brand new piece in the JHW aesthetic.
In the picture below is one such example: We worked with one customer to remodel her engagement ring to celebrate 10 years of marriage. The result was this bespoke stacking ring set set with the diamonds from her original ring.

We’re always really happy to discuss any of these options, please do get in touch for a chat.

More information about how we can repurpose can be found here.

Timeframe

The timeframes for our commissions need to allow for the fully bespoke briefing and design process – this is where we spend time to really understand what you’re after, which of our designs you like, any stones you might be interested in, your budget and timescales and so on. Once you're completely happy with the final design and - where required - we’ve sourced a stone you like, our timelines for production are usually 4-6 weeks. This will not take into account any public holidays in the UK.

Not able to visit the studio? No problem!

We love to work on bespoke commissions and welcome enquiries from anywhere in the world. A happy result of the pandemic means that we are very accustomed to working with customers from far and wide, embracing whichever method suits you best.
Depending on where you are located, we can arrange to meet in person at my studio in Deptford, South East London, or remotely via video link (eg Zoom), email or phone. Or perhaps a mixture of all of those. The joy of commissioning a piece of bespoke jewellery is the collaboration between us, so do get in touch if you have something in mind and let's take it from there.
