I had a lovely surprise during this year’s Fair when I was honoured to be one of five winners of this year’s Goldsmiths’ Fair awards!
Five esteemed judges, experts in this industry, were invited to pick their favourite piece from the Fair for each week. One of the judges, Louisa Guinness from the Louisa Guinness Gallery, selected my Maxi Structural Sphere earrings, made primarily using aluminium with touches of gold, as her winner for week 2 and I could not be more thrilled.
Louisa is renowned as a trailblazing gallerist and leading authority in artist-made jewellery. She explains:
‘Jo has been doing the Fair for 20 years, and what I love is that her work continues to evolve. With the current price of gold, we are all seeking alternative materials, and Jo’s use of raw aluminium continues to amaze me. She uses the latest techniques to create finely detailed wax models, retaining razor sharp edges when cast in aluminium. As the pieces move, they reveal an extraordinary lustre - a sheen, almost velvety, that catches the light and makes you want to touch it. Aluminium is also wonderfully light - perfect for earrings!’
I am incredibly chuffed and grateful to have this recognition.
Goldsmiths describes the chosen work as being ‘some of the most exciting work on show at this year’s Fair’.
Wow. Thank you Louisa and the team at The Goldsmiths Fair for your continued support.
