Today we’re happy to share the story of how Jo repurposed Maya’s gold Indian beads into rings that she will wear and adore forever. Maya and Jo tell the tale here:
Maya
I first came across Jo at Goldsmiths’ fair and was instantly drawn to her beautiful creations. When I subsequently visited her website and discovered the repurposing commissions Jo has worked on, my mind immediately turned to the gold Indian beads that I had inherited. The beads had been gathering dust for some time as I was unsure how to wear them or what to do with them. I arranged to meet with Jo at her Cockpit studio and take the beads with me.
I had been drawn to several of Jo’s rings and especially loved her architectural styles. In the end I settled on the Random Oval design which I now happily realise is something very akin to my mother’s aesthetic. She had given me the beads, so it felt like a lovely tribute to her.
I absolutely love my ring and adore wearing it. It sits so beautifully on the finger, and lights up as your hand moves - it’s a piece I cherish.
Jo
While weighing the gold beads and working out Maya’s new Random Oval ring I calculated that she would have some left over gold. This could of course be used up in a later project but, I explained to Maya, if she did want to go for another JHW piece the production costs would be greatly reduced if we created it at the same time as her Random Oval Ring. In the end we used the left over gold to create a Cube stacking ring set for Maya’s upcoming birthday - to be gifted to her by her Husband.
This was a lovely project and I am so honoured to have created two special pieces for Maya from her heirloom gold. There is even a tiny blob of gold left over for the next project!
